Eastern Michigan withstands a late rally

12/21/23

The host eagles of Eastern Michigan defeated the Hampton Pirates 72-69 on the shoulders of Tyson Acuff’s 29-point performance. Acuff tallied 17 first half points to help the Eagles lead by 19 before going into the half up 42-30. The duo of Kyrese Mullin (19pts & 14 rebounds) and Thomas Trey (17 points) wouldn’t let the Pirates fold. After whittling the deficit down Mullin hit a late three pointer to cut the deficit to 3 with less than a minute left in the game. After getting a much-needed stop Hampton turned the ball over letting Eastern squeeze out the victory. Eastern Michigan improves to 6-5 and will face Northwood on 12/30, while Hampton falls to 4-8 and will next play 1/1/24 versus Drexal.
