Zips run past Eagles in MAC action

1/11/25

The visiting Akron Zips withstood a hot start by the host Eastern Michigan Eagles to cruise to a 105-81 victory. A succession of three pointers gave the Eagles an early seven-point lead but was wiped away by a 10-0 run by the Zips. Akron stretched that 14-11 lead into a 16-point halftime lead 54-38 before eventually winning by the 24-point margin.  Seven Zips scored in double figures, led by 17 from James Okonkwo and a double double from Tavari Johnson with 10 points and 10 assists.

Eastern Michigan were led by Christian Henry and Da’Sean Nelson’s 22 and 16 points respectively as they had four players in double figures but it wasn’t enough to thwart Akron’s attempt for victory. EMU falls to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the MAC while Akron improves 10-5 and 3-0.
