Blue Streaks dominate Mt. St. Joseph

The John Carroll Blue Streaks won in convincing fashion 52-7 racking up 439 yards of offense while holding Mt. St. Joseph the HCAC champions to 193 yards in the rout. Blue Streak quarterback Nick Sembtimphelter had an efficient day passing going 14-17 for 155 yards with five touchdowns and a running back by committee approach yielded 268 yards on the ground.

John Carroll led 10-0 after the first stanza behind the leg of Colin Schukert (37yd field goal) and an 8 yard Tyren Montgomery touchdown run. In the second quarter the Blue Streak offense took control scoring three times as they put the game out of reach leading 31-0 at intermission.

Defensively the host intercepted Lions’ quarterback Tyler Prather three times while adding 3 sacks in their solid effort. The Mt. St. Joseph Lions didn’t give up with Prather throwing a 17-yard touchdown to Kadin Pollard late in the contest. Blue Streak back Nehemiah Jenkins capped the day’s scoring with a 17-yard run. Mt. St. Joseph’s Jackson Gifford ran for 75 yards on 13 carries as the Lions end their season with an 8-3 record. John Carroll 9-2 move on to the second round in a rematch of an early season OCAC game versus Mount Union. The Purple Raiders won that contest 37-31 in a barnburner.
