Kent State defeats Buffalo for the MAC women’s title

Tournament MVP Katie Shumate’s 18 points and 9 rebounds led the Kent State Golden Flashes (21-10, 12-5 MAC) to their first conference tournament title in over two decades with the 78-60 won over Buffalo (19-13, 10-8 MAC). The Golden Flashes also got contributions from Jenna Batsch and Dionna Gray with 14 points apiece while Bridget Dunn had 12 rebounds and made the all-tourney team with Shumate. Chellia Watson’s game high 21 points (5 assists) helped the Bulls keep the game close until Kent State went on and 11-0 in the 3rd quarter and never looked back. The Bulls couldn’t mount a comeback the day after they upset Toledo in overtime being outscored 48-26 in the second have after leading by four 34-30 at halftime.
