Rockets cruise past the Dukes in their season opener

The University of Toledo racked up a total of 446 total yards and used a strong first half performance to propel them to a 49-10 victory over Duquesne in the season opener for both teams at the Glass Bowl. Led by receiver Jerjuan Newton (5 catches for 98 yards and a TD) the passing attack scored three of the four first half touchdowns for the Rockets. Tucker Gleason passed for 202 yards and those 3 scores. Toledo’s ground attack was a running back by committee approach. Willie Shaw III carried the ball 7 times for 50 yards and a score while Jacquez Stuart added 34 and two TD’s.

Defensively the Rockets forced six punts, held Duquesne to 286 total yards while garnering 3 takeaways from the Dukes. Duquesne quarterback Darius Perrantes was held to 15-26 completions for 143 yards with a TD and interception. After the two first half drives that netted the Dukes 10 points, they were held scoreless while the Rockets pulled away in the second half for the final difference of 39 points.
